Retained List: Two offered deals but ten go at Carlisle

It is that time of the season when teams reveal who will be on their respective retained lists following a long and tiring season. This time it is the turn of League Two side Carlisle United, led by former England international defender Keith Curle.

He has certainly been busy, announcing that ten players will be leaving the club in addition to two more being offered contracts. Ten players are currently on the books heading into next season as well.

Tom Miller, who made 28 appearances for the Cumbrians this season in League Two, and also fellow defender Alexander McQueen have both been offered new contracts. Both have yet to officially receive written contracts offers, only verbal at this point, but later in the week that will change.

Ten individuals have been allowed to leave Brunton Park. They are headlined by experienced striker Derek Asamoah. Although most of his appearances this season have been as a substitute, he was the third-highest top scorer in the squad of six goals behind Jabo Ibehre and Charlie Wyke.

Bastien Hery, the former Rochdale midfielder, is another who has been allowed to move on. Of his 20 league appearances, 16 came when starting, but his departure isn’t a real surprise. Most of those games came earlier in the season and he hasn’t featured in the first-team since March.

The others to be released by Curle are Troy Archibald-Henville, Angelo Balanta, Arron Bradbury, Dan Hanford, Louis Pedro, Steven Rigg, Antony Sweeney and Joe Thompson.

The following players remain under contract and will form the basis of the Carlisle United squad next season:

Dave Atkinson, Patrick Brough, Mark Ellis, Mark Gillespie, Danny Grainger, Jabo Ibehre, Luke Joyce, Jason Kennedy, Michael Raynes and Charlie Wyke.
