Coventry City have this evening revealed who will feature in and out of their plans for the upcoming season. Tony Mowbray has revealed their retained list, with several experienced professionals being allowed to move on.
Earlier this week Joe Cole was released from his contract so he could pursue a footballing move to the States. Marc Antoine-Fortune has been allowed to leave in similar circumstances as well.
The headline duo of players that won’t be retained are defender Reda Johnson and midfielder Jim O’Brien. Injury has hampered Johnson’s season, meaning he has only made 12 appearances in League One. He joined the club in July 2014, but it would appear that Mowbray’s patience regarding his injuries has finally broken. O’Brien played 20 league games, scoring twice. He ended the season out on loan at Scunthorpe United, so it is perhaps not a great surprise that he will be moving on permanently.
Central defender Aaron Martin is another that is being allowed to move on. The former Yeovil man appeared 29 times this season for the Sky Blues. The remainder of the players that have been allowed to move on are mainly fringe players. They consist of Conor Thomas, Martin Lorentzson, Aaron Phillips, Peter Ramage, Stephen Hunt and Darius Henderson.
Ex-Rangers man John Fleck has been offered a new deal of which talks are still on-going. The experienced duo of Sam Ricketts and Marcus Tudgay are also in a similar situation, with the club discussing terms of their new contracts. Chris Stokes was offered and has agreed a new one-year deal to remain at the Ricoh Arena.
