Retained List: Club legend amongst those leaving Bury

Bury made the decision to announce their retained list last week, when they still had two matches left before their season ended. Nevertheless, David Flitcroft has since learned that one player, who was offered a new deal, decided to reject that proposal.

A total of eight players are out of contract in the Bury squad, three of which were offered deals, but Ryan Lowe elected to turn that down.

The headline news, as touched upon above, is that Ryan Lowe will be leaving Bury. He has enjoyed two spells during his time and it was a club statement that announced ‘club legend’ Lowe has decided against extending his stay. He was offered a one-year contract, but Lowe revealed that following a ‘long and hard’ thoughts, he said that he has received a better offer elsewhere.

Midfielder Craig Jones, who made 36 league appearances this season has triggered a clause in his contract, meaning that he automatically earns a fresh one-year extension.

33-year-old former Leeds utility man Danny Pugh has also been offered a new deal and contract discussions are on-going with the ex-Manchester United youngster. He scored one League One goal this season, that coming in the away victory at rivals Oldham Athletic in January.

The following players will not be offered new deals and as such will be allowed to leave Gigg Lane:

Rob Lainton, Danny Nardiello, Kiel O’Brien, Marcus Poscha, Reece Brown and Chris Eagles.

It is Brown out of all of those who appeared most for the first team this season, whilst Nardiello is currently out on loan and hoping to gain promotion into League One with Plymouth Argyle via the play-offs. Goalkeeper Lainton also made ten appearances in League One this season as well.

Loan players Ian Lawlor, John O’Sullivan, Cian Bolger, Chris Neale and Sean Clare all leave following the culmination of their respective loan deals with Flitcroft’s men.

The following list of players remain under contract and will be a part of their squad for next season:

Joe Riley, Chris Hussey, Andrew Tutte, Peter Clarke, Kelvin Etuhu, Hallam Hope, Jacob Mellis, Leon Clarke, Danny Mayor, Tom Pope, Craig Jones, Tom Soares, Scott Burgess, Nathan Cameron, Anthony Dudley, Danny Rose, John Ruddy (gk).
