Reading to scour European scene for player recruits

Reading will look to exploit the European transfer market to bolster their squad ahead of next season. Get Reading understands that manager Brian McDermott, and recently appointed technical director Brian Tevreden, are to spend the next week watching games across the continent searching for new recruits.

The Royals end their below-par Championship campaign against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on Saturday, but the very next day McDermott and Tevreden will be taking in the first of many games in the coming days.

There is a game taking place on Sunday where the duo will be monitoring a certain individual very closely according to former Leeds manager McDermott,

“I’m travelling with Brian (Tevreden) on Sunday to another country to see a player we’re watching specifically.

“We’ll be watching games next week and will come up with something that is feasible.”

It would appear that Holland is almost certainly set to be one of the destinations that Reading are looking to take a glance over. The regular Eredivisie season comes to a climax on Sunday and there seems to be a good chance that the pair will end up at one of those nine stadiums, as Tevreden has ‘contacts’ in that country,

“Brian’s got good contacts in Holland and places like that and I obviously know all the agents and people over here – I’ve done that role before.

“So between us we’ll try and come up with the right people to come to the football club.”

Tevreden was a former coach at Ajax and was initially given the role of Head of International Football and Development at the Madejski Stadium when he was originally appointed in February. However Nick Hammond surprise departure to Premier League side West Bromwich Albion meant that a reshuffle was made by the Thai owners.
