AFC Wimbledon v Portsmouth – Match Preview

Promotion chasing AFC Wimbledon and Portsmouth meet at Kingsmeadow this evening with both clubs looking more than likely to be competing in the end of season Play Offs in League 2.

Victory for the home side would confirm their top seven finish while Portsmouth’s place in the end of season promotion lottery is already virtually assured as a result of the club’s vastly superior goal difference compared to the sides below them in the league table.

AFC Wimbledon could welcome back midfielder Jake Reeves to the side after his recovery from injury but defender Jon Meades is out of action with an ankle problem while the experienced Karleigh Osborne will miss the remainder of the campaign after suffering a knee injury.

Portsmouth make the short journey to Kingston Upon Thames with a number of injury concerns. Manager Paul Cook has refused to reveal the identities of those who are expected to miss the match although midfielders Kyle Bennett and Adam Webster are believed to have ankle injuries while on loan Bolton Wanderers striker Conor Wilkinson has a groin problem.

Neil Ardley’s AFC Wimbledon side are surprise contenders for promotion but their strong end of season finish has been helped by a sequence of five consecutive league wins. Portsmouth arrive at Kingsmeadow in patchy form after losing two of their previous three league matches.
