Barnsley v Oldham Athletic – Match Preview

Barnsley’s League 1 Play Off credentials face a huge test this evening when in form Oldham Athletic are the visitors to Oakwell.

The relegation threatened Latics make the short journey over the Pennines having won their last three league matches with John Sheridan’s side keeping four straight clean sheets in the process.

Johnstones’ Paint Trophy winners Barnsley go into the match with no fresh injury concerns following The Tykes’ 2-1 home defeat to Chesterfield on Saturday. Marc Roberts is fit to feature after a nasty clash of heads in the recent home loss and fellow defender George Smith has also returned to fitness after a hamstring injury. Winger Ryan Williams remains sidelined with a groin problem.

Victory at Oakwell would ensure that Oldham Athletic reach the 50 point mark but The Latics will have to contend with the loss of on loan midfielder Matt Palmer who has been recalled by parent club Burton Albion. Athletic’s attacking options are limited with Dominic Poleon (shoulder), Aaron Holloway (ankle) and Timmy Thiele (shoulder) all still out of action.

Promotion chasing Barnsley have been in good form of late losing just once in their last 10 matches in all competitions prior to Saturday’s surprise home defeat to Chesterfield but John Sheridan’s improving Oldham Athletic side could push the South Yorkshire club all the way in a must win encounter for both clubs.
