Former Leeds United striker Andy Keogh, who came up through the ranks of the Elland Road club, before moving onto Scunthorpe and then Wolves in a £675,000 move, is now breaking A-League records with current club Perth Glory.
The former Ireland international, who the website perthnow say is in “the hottest form of his life,” has turned into what they say is the “A-League’s version of Jamie Vardy,” scoring in an eighth successive A-League game for his current side.
Keogh, who only made 24 appearances for the Whites between July 2003 and March 2005, when he signed for Scunthorpe for a fee said to be £56,000, finished from close range in a 3-2 victory over Melbourne City to claim the record and take his goal tally for the season to 10 goals in only 13 games; this is against a total of 12 goals for the whole of the last campaign.
Keogh, who made a return to Leeds United on loan from Wolves in the 2011/12 season, is hoping that capturing the A-League record will propel the team onto bigger things – they have won 10 of their last 11 games but also that he will see personal benefit too.
On a personal note, according to the perthnow website article, Keogh is looking for an international recall with the website saying: “he hopes his recent scoring exploits will be enough to earn an international recall under coach Martin O’Neill.”
Of course this all depends on his record-breaking scoring run continuing and he will have the opportunity to make it a nine-streak on Sunday when they take on Sydney FC, who are out of the Finals race and on an 11-game winless streak.
