Bradford to sign Sunderland midfielder

Sunderland Under-21 captain Liam Agnew is set to sign for League One side Bradford City on a two year deal, according to the Sunderland Echo.

The 20 year old is set to join The Bantams in the summer.

He has spent two week long trial periods at Valley Parade over the last month, after Sunderland gave the youngster permission to try and earn a move to West Yorkshire.

It is now understood that Agnew has impressed Bradford boss Phil Parkinson and discussions to take the Sunderland academy product to the club are now at an advanced stage.

Agnew has made one first team appearance for Sunderland, in the FA Cup fourth round last season.

However, as he turns 21, Sunderland would have to take up a registration spot in their first team squad to keep him next season.

Due to this, it is believed that Agnew has been told he can find a new club this summer.

It is also possible that Sunderland and Bradford may be in the same division next season, as Sunderland are fighting to survive in the Premier League, with Bradford currently occupying a play-off place in League One.
