Karl Robinson has acted quickly to fill the temporary void he has in the centre back position with the loan signing of Burnley’s Kevin Long. The 25-year-old pens a loan deal to MK Dons which last for the remainder of the season.
The Dons are currently without the suspended Kyle McFadzean, whilst Joe Walsh and Matty Upson are still unavailable because of injury for the time-being. Robinson admitted to being impressed with the player during a loan spell with League One side Barnsley earlier this season.
The Cork-born defender, who is also capable of filling in a full back position, has played over 100 times in his professional career and has managed seven goals during that time as well.
Robinson has been looking to bolster his squad ahead of the final eight matches of the season as they look to avoid an immediate return back into League One. Speaking on the signing of Long, he revealed he is a player he has been tracking for some time and is happy to have him on board,
“Kevin ticks a number of boxes for us – he’s a wonderful size and he’s good on the ball.
“I told him he’s got to come here and fight for his place. He could have gone to three other sides where he would have been guaranteed a start but he said he wants to come here and fight for a place.
“He wants to come here for the right reasons. It’s key that we bring in players with the right mentality, given our position.”
