Versatile Wolves midfielder joins Doncaster on loan

Tommy Rowe has linked up with former manager Darren Ferguson by joining League One strugglers Doncaster Rovers on loan until the end of the season.

Rowe, who made over 200 appearances for Peterborough under Ferguson between 2009 and 2014, has struggled to make an impact at Molineux since moving to the club two years ago.

The deal for Rowe was done just in time for the midfielder to make the bench for today’s League One clash – which is incidentally against former team Peterborough United.

In an interview with the club, the Doncaster Rovers boss spoke of his delight at being able to re-sign a player that he holds in high esteem.

He said “Tommy is a fantastic player and one that I have targeted since my arrival here. It’s great to have finally secured him and I thank Gavin Baldwin and the board for that.

“Tommy is very versatile and can play in a number of positions across the back and in midfield. He has played a lot of games; he won the JPT and promotion with Peterborough and has experience of this league.”

The 26-year-old has already been on loan at Scunthorpe United in the first half of this campaign – scoring one goal in a 14-game spell for the Iron

In his five-year stint with the Posh, Rowe steered the club to the Championship by scoring the opening goal in the 2011 League One play-off final and also won the Football League Trophy in his last season at the club.

Doncaster fans will be hoping that he can resurrect his career and help the club stave off relegation to the fourth tier of English football.

After a miserable campaign so far, Donny are level on points with Oldham, who occupy the final slot in the relegation zone; however the Yorkshire side have played a game more than the Latics.
