Fulham 2 Burnley 3 – Match Report

Burnley came from behind to secure victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage in a thrilling match between the Championship’s two top scoring sides.

The Clarets went into the match well aware that they would need a victory to ensure that they would be guaranteed top spot at the end of the evening with promotion rivals Middlesbrough also in action at Rotherham United.

Burnley made a rapid start at Craven Cottage when Sam Vokes headed in from a corner after just nine minutes to put the league leaders ahead. The Clarets’ lead did not last long and Fulham striker Ross McCormack lashed in a 17th minute equaliser before the home side took a surprise lead when Moussa Dembele chested the ball beyond Tom Heaton from close range to give The Cottagers a 2-1 half time lead.

The Clarets returned to the field after half time with Manager Sean Dyche no doubt issuing some strong words to his players at half time and Sam Vokes soon slotted in an equaliser from the penalty spot after Joey Barton had been fouled in the area.

Burnley sealed their crucial victory just after the hour mark when hot shot Andre Gray blasted an unstoppable shot into the net from the edge of the box.

The result leaves The Clarets six points clear of third place Brighton & Hove Albion while Middlesbrough’s defeat at Rotherham United means that Sean Dyche’s side are now four points clear at the Championship summit.
