Fan claims Leeds paid him for Cellino support

A Leeds United supporter has told to Daily Mail that he was paid by the football club to ‘post supportive messages on social media’ about owner Massimo Cellino. Scott Gutteridge claims he was paid £500 per month by the Championship side to try improve the relationship between the fans and outspoken Cellino.

Whilst a football club spokesman claims that this isn’t true, Gutteridge says he created the Facebook group ‘In Massimo We Trust’. However because of the amount of information he supposedly leaked, he was dropped from the group.

Gutteridge has a history of working within IT and website design, and he revealed that the club felt a ‘positive influence from small number of fans could go a long way.’ The club were said to have sponsored the group to try and improve the feeling of discontent from a number of fans.

Whilst some aren’t too sure if Gutteridge’s claims are true, he maintains that his story is anything but false,

“I was approached because of my IT/website design background by an unnamed member of Leeds United to assist in the creation and running of a group called Cellino In (now known as In Massimo We Trust).

“I was told I would receive a nominal payment depending on activity and contribution. It balanced out at £500 per month. The club felt that a positive influence from a small number of fans could go a long way and sponsoring this group would be worth their time.

“I started to realise what was going on behind the scenes. This was nothing more than propaganda with the wrongdoings being covered up by the club using the Facebook group to counter arguments. Leeds is a club rotten to the core.”

An unnamed Leeds United spokesman disputed Gutteridge’s claims, suggesting that ‘there is nothing in this’, however other club sources believe that Gutteridge’s story is very much true.
