Leeds United: Berardi and Vouama avoid drama

Leeds United have been crying out for a couple of things of late; a genuine right back and players who can play with natural width. Things may be about to look up in at least of those departments for the Whites.

Leeds’ Under-21s side turned out today with a familiar face on his comeback from injury and a not-so-familiar face looking to earn a deal at Elland Road.

With regard to the former, Gaetano Berardi completed 45 minutes of the Under-21’s 2-2 draw with local neighbours and rivals Hudderfield Town, both Leeds goals being scored by youngster Eoghan Stokes.

Berardi has been out injured since suffering a relapse of a previous injury, tearing a ligament in his ankle after twisting awkwardly in the December game against Charlton Athletic at the Valley. Since then, Berardi has been on the comeback trail, with today’s ‘reserve’ fixture his first action since his recovery.

Coming through the opening 45 minutes of today’s game unscathed, Evans said that Berardi will be on the bench for tomorrow’s game against Fulham, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Lee Sobot. Berardi himself, who earlier set an involvement in next Monday’s Brighton game, said to BBC Radio Leeds that he’s not had a reaction to his injury for a fortnight saying he’d, “worked very hard the last two weeks” and that even from last week he’s “100%”.

The other player, who is looking to earn a contract with the Whites, is French 19-year-old winger Will Vouama who has been on trial at Leeds United recently, being named amongst the Under-21 substitutes last week. Vouama, who plays for French 4th tier side Viry Chatillon, also got a run out today (below) and is a player who can play down both wings.
