Survival still possible after Fulham loss says Riga

Charlton Athletic Manager Jose Riga still believes that his side can secure Championship safety after suffering a heavy 3-0 defeat at Fulham yesterday according to News Shopper.

A double from Tom Cairney and a first Fulham goal for new signing Michael Madl left The Addicks rooted to the bottom of the Championship table. The South East London club have won just once in their last 15 league matches and are now 6 points from safety.

Despite the club’s dreadful run of form Addicks boss Riga still sees no reason why his side cannot secure league safety come May.

“I saw a team creating opportunities and doing well. It’s just that we conceded the second goal at the worst moment. Mentally it’s quite hard when you are in our situation” Riga told News Shopper.

“We created a lot of opportunities even in the end. I saw a Charlton side matching with Fulham.”

“Hope and will is still there and certainly 3-0 is quite difficult for us to accept but I saw my team still going.”

“In the dressing room, all the players are very disappointed so it’s not the right moment to speak too much.”

“It’s not the end of the season, we’ve seen many stories of teams who have looked like they cannot survive – but from what I saw today, I’m still believing.”

Charlton Athletic face a tough trip to Preston North End on Tuesday evening to face one of the division’s form sides.
