Middlesbrough target loan deal for Premier League winger

Middlesbrough are keen to bring in Swansea City winger Jefferson Montero on loan for the rest of the season.

According to the Sun, Championship promotion contenders Middlesbrough are hoping to add another weapon to their attacking arsenal, and Boro boss Aitor Karanka is focusing on landing Montero as soon as possible.

A dismal run of five games without victory has seen Middlesbrough slip from top spot in the Championship table, and are now narrowly above a number of teams desperate to nab an automatic promotion spot. Boro have recorded only two goals in this five game run, signalling that despite landing high-profile striker Jordan Rhodes on deadline day, more firepower will be needed to vault Middlesbrough back to the Premier League.

According to The Sun, Middlesbrough have made contact with Swansea, asking to take highly-rated Swansea winger Jefferson Montero on loan for the rest of the season. Montero signed with The Swans in 2014 from Mexican side Morelia, and was an ever-present in Swansea’s 2014/15 Premier League campaign, making 30 league appearances in the season.

However, since former boss Gary Monk departed the club, Montero has fallen out of favour under new manager Francesco Guidolin, and has failed to make an appearance for Swansea in over a month.

It appears Montero is not in the immediate plans of the new Swans boss, meaning that the Welsh side could be open to loaning the 26-year-old out, with Aitor Karanka’s Middlesbrough currently an interested party.
