Derby boss on MK Dons defeat: “I am certainly not panicking”

Despite a disappointing defeat to Championship strugglers MK Dons on Saturday, interim head coach Darren Wassall is confident The Rams can turn their form around.

Now eight games without a win, Derby County are in desperate need of a reverse in form to avoid dropping out of the Championship playoff spots.

After defeat in his first game as Derby boss, Wassall appeared buoyant, and focused on the positives that came from the game, as well as what lay ahead for his team.

Speaking to the Derby Telegraph, Wassall commented “the players are very positive even though they are very disappointed.

“We are certainly very confident in turning it around in the very near future.”

The Rams boss was keen to highlight that there are certainly players of suitable quality to turn the club’s current league form around.

“we are confident we will get it right because we have got some great players here.

“We are all looking forward to Monday now and preparing for Brentford.

“I am certainly not panicking.”

Wassall said that the effort of his players can’t be faulted, despite their struggles on the pitch as of late.

“I am absolutely delighted with all of them, I have been since Tuesday.

“It was not through lack of trying that they lost the game. I think they were unfortunate to lose.”

Following Derby’s dismal loss at home to MK Dons on Saturday, fans of The Rams let their feelings be known, as a chorus of boos greeted the players after the final whistle was sounded. However, while Wassall was understanding of the fans’ frustrations, he commented that the fans nor the media could criticise his players’ efforts.

“The fans are going to be disappointed until we stop the rot and get a win,

“We went into the game fifth in the League and five points off second place, so the fans know that the players are trying their very best.

“If those in the 30,000 crowd and you in the Press didn’t think the players worked hard and didn’t think they were all together, and that they tried to win the game, then you were at a different game to me.”

The Rams will be hoping to turn their form around starting this weekend, as they make the trip down to Griffin Park and Brentford, before a midweek clash at home to Blackburn.
