Cellino protest sign taken down

Leeds United have confirmed via Sky Sports that the poster placed outside of Elland Road which criticised owner Massimo Cellino has been taken down. It is believed that the club elected to remove the ‘Time To Go Massimo’ sign after legal action was threatened.

The Italian is already appealing against a Football League ban which would deny him the chance to continue running the club, and a section of fans are unhappy with how he has handled club matters in recent times.

The protest sign, which was produced after being funded by a selection of supporters, questioned why Cellino was still involved at Elland Road after he pledged to leave if certain criteria wasn’t met.

A picture of Cellino was on the sign, with a large red cross after his face. It went on to list a series of statements that the outspoken businessman previously said.

After being placed outside of the East Stand, it has since been revealed that the advertising agency which owns the advertising boarding where the protest banner covered, has taken it down.

The first statement on the banner read that if the club weren’t in the Premier League in 2015/16 (this season) then Cellino had failed in his role, with another reading that his dream is to ‘keep a coach for 20 years’. The others suggests that if the club sold ‘good players’ then ‘we are wasting our time’, the final being his promise to buy Elland Road.

Leeds are next back in action on Monday night, when they entertain title chasing Middlesbrough live on Sky Sports.
