AFC Bournemouth striker Benik Afobe has reacted angrily to claims made by Wolves’ head of football development and recruitment Kevin Thelwell at a fan Q and A last night. The former Arsenal striker has taken to Twitter to respond to claims that he was no longer trying.
It was well-documented that Afobe wanted to move from Molineux to seek Premier League Football, which has been granted by Cherries boss Eddie Howe.
Thelwell had suggested that Afobe was ‘no longer trying to play for us’ and that ‘was undermining everything we were trying to achieve’. This has understandably upset the ex-MK Dons loanee, and he reacted on social media.

Afobe rounded off by wishing Wolves and the fans all the best for the future. Clearly the former Arsenal youngster pointed to the fact that his goalscoring record alone suggested that he was giving his all for the cause. He also mentions how he never told any team-mate that he was looking to leave the club, as he wanted to ensure the dressing room was united for the club.
Wolves Chief Executive Jez Moxey also had his say on the situation, saying that the player ‘insisted on moving’ and that the club were ‘forced into doing a deal that we didn’t want to do’. This probably isn’t the last we’ll be hearing on this matter.
