Alex McCarthy

Fulham quest to sign Palace keeper collapses

Sky Sports understands that Alex McCarthy’s loan move to Fulham from Crystal Palace has fallen through. The 26-year-old passed a medical with the Craven Cottage club, however an agreement between all concerned parties could not be reached.

Earlier today, Eagles boss Alan Pardew confirmed that McCarthy was allowed to leave the club on loan, as long as a replacement was purchased. No deal to sign someone else has been reached, but ‘all parties were unwilling to commit to the agreement’.

Pardew also confirms that McCarthy was in talks with two Championship clubs earlier today. It remains to be seen at this late stage if he could push through a move elsewhere, or if Palace can act and sign a replacement anyway.

Slavisa Jokanovic had been hoping to sign the former Reading shotstopper, who has also been recalled up into England senior squads in recent times.

During his time at Reading he had several loan moves away, including to clubs such as Team Bath, Aldershot Town and Cambridge United. In previous times he has moved to Queens Park Rangers, Leeds United, Brentford, Yeovil Town and Ipswich Town. He is expected to now return to Selhurst Park.

Fulham aren’t exactly short of goalkeeping cover at Craven Cottage thankfully. Although Marcus Bettinelli is still out through injury, Andy Lonergan and Joe Lewis still remain on the books.
