Middlesbrough lose out on Chelsea youngster who signs for Norwich

Middlesbrough have lost out in their pursuit of young Chelsea midfielder Patrick Bamford as the 22 year-old has signed for Premier League side Norwich on loan.

The England U21 international has failed to make a single league appearance for the Blues since joining back in 2012 and has had five separate loan spells.

Last season Bamford spent the entire season on loan with Middlesbrough and was a huge hit at the Riverside Stadium – leaving as there top scorer for the season with 17 goals in 38 league games.

Despite Aitor Karanka’s best efforts to lure the youngster back to Boro, Bamford got a taste of Premier League football earlier this season with Crystal Palace and is now set to continue his development with the Canaries.

The Championship’s Player of the Year for 2014-15 joins the East Anglian club on loan until the end of the season and is happy about his move to Carrow Road;

“I’m really happy to be here, and the sooner I’m able to get involved the better.

“That’s what I want to do personally, but it’s also about helping Norwich to get the points required to stay in the league.”
