Tony Watt

Charlton striker set for Blackburn loan move

South London Today is reporting that Charlton Athletic striker Tony Watt is set to leave the Addicks on loan once again. After spending the first part of the season on loan at Cardiff City, only to see a permanent deal fall through, he is now set to become Paul Lambert’s latest signing for Blackburn Rovers.

The 22-year Scot played in Charlton’s recent 1-1 draw against Blackburn, after his loan deal at Cardiff expired. Jose Riga said that as long as the player is committed, he had a future with the club. However he is closing in on another move away from the Valley.

The ex-Celtic striker, best known for his goal against Barcelona in the Champions League, impressed earlier this season during a loan spell in Wales. So much so, Russell Slade was desperate to sign him permanently. A fee was agreed, but the Bluebirds then found themselves under a transfer embargo. That meant Watt left the club.

Nevertheless, Lambert is set to add yet another striker to his ranks at Ewood Park. Danny Graham signed on loan from Sunderland, plus free agent Simeon Jackson has also been signed up. Goals have been hard to come by for Rovers in recent times, so Watt will certainly add yet more creativity and tenacity in the final third for them.
