Scunthorpe part company with manager Mark Robins

Scunthorpe United have today sacked manager Mark Robins and assistant manager Ned Kelly with immediate effect. The Iron lost 5-0 away to Blackpool yesterday, making it four games without a victory and only three victories in their last 13 matches in all competitions.

Yesterday’s heavy loss leaves the League One side situated in 16th place in the table, six points above the relegation zone and nine points behind Peterborough United, who occupy the final play-off position. Chairman Peter Swann has released a brief statement on the official club website, although there will be a further update in due course.

Swann, who has been chairman on the Glanford Park club since 2013 and appointed Robins and Kelly as the new management team in October 2014, said that it was in the ‘best interests’ of the club to make a change,

“We are sad to part company with Mark and Ned, but we have to think about the best interests of Scunthorpe United Football Club.

We wish Mark and Ned all the best for the future.”

Unless a quick appointment in made, then coaches Nick Daws and Andy Dawson could take over first-team duties on a temporary basis. Scunthorpe are next back in action this weekend when they entertain Colchester United. Although many on the outside will deem this to be quite a harsh decision, judging by social media, a fair proportion of Scunthorpe United supporters feel as though this is the right decision.
