Cardiff City manager Russell Slade has confirmed to Wales Online that he hopes to complete the permanent signing of Tony Watt later today. The strikers’ loan deal from Championship strugglers Charlton Athletic expires after tomorrow’s encounter with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The former Celtic forward will start in the Bluebirds line-up for the trip to Molineux, but it is hoped he can do so as a permanent Cardiff City player. The change of management at Charlton isn’t expected to alter any potential deal going ahead. Slade is confident that the £1million transfer can be concluded before the end of the day.
Watt has been a regular in the Cardiff side ever since signing and although he has only scored two goals, he has brought a great deal of creativity and flair to the forward line. He has stood out in recent weeks and Slade believes he’ll be a major asset,
“He’s made a difference, particularly in the early games when he did exceptionally well for someone who hadn’t played much at Charlton. He needs to go again.
It’s the same for all players. They need to take a deep breath and push on to increase performance levels.”
The former Leyton Orient boss acknowledged that there was a ‘few hoops to go through’ and the fact that a medical would need to take place, he still expects the deal to go ahead before the close of play today.
