Derby donate cup gate receipts to Hartlepool

Derby County have handed their percentage of gate receipts from Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Hartlepool United to their opponents. The Rams handed over the £23,000 share to the Victoria Park club, who are situated in 21st position in League Two.

Derby made several changes to their side, including giving debuts to recent signings Nick Blackman and Abdoul Camara, and came away with a 2-1 victory. They came from behind and the crowd of 4,860 generated the sufficient quantity of gate receipt, and Derby gave their share to Hartlepool.

The gesture will certainly be greatly by the League Two strugglers, who could potentially use the money to allow Ronnie Moore to dip into the transfer market this month. It is fair to say that not many clubs would agree to do something like this, so us at The72 certainly provide a large pat on the back to the relevant bodies at Derby County.

Although it was a tight cup tie at the weekend, the gulf in class between the two sides is largely quite….well, large. Derby sit second in the Championship, only four points behind leaders Middlesbrough. They have only lost three league games this season.

Hartlepool are only three points above the dreaded relegation places and relegation into the National League is obviously something they’ll want to avoid. They’ll need to improve their form to achieve that though as it is now four straight defeats, their most recent league loss coming at home to league leaders Plymouth Argyle.
