Ex-Leeds boss Hockaday sacked – United fans take to Twitter

If ever the acronym WTF was perfectly coined then it must have been for times like when Leeds United appointed Dave Hockaday as ‘head coach’ before the start of the 2014/15 Championship season.

It is safe to say that Leeds United fans stood aghast and scratched their head in a mixture of disbelief and bewilderment; I know I did – I reckon many others followed suit. Before Leeds’ madcap Italian became really known for maverick ideas, hardly anyone had heard of Hockaday. Prior to taking up the ‘guided’ reins at Elland Road, the Hock’s previous managerial experience was a failed spell at Forest Green…failed as in he was sacked.

However, 19th June 2014 was when Cellino signed on Diamond Dave for his tenure at Elland Road. Still baffled by the appointment, Leeds fans subsided into ‘give him a chance’ mode; this generosity soon turned into a torrent of ‘get him out’ mode. Six games was all it took as the axe fell on the Hock after Leeds went out of the Carling Cup to local neigbours Bradford City, this after a thumping by Watford that saw Hockaday only just retain his job.

Moving on to Coventry as as professional development coach, Hockaday was put in charge of the Sky Blues after Steven Pressley was sacked. Then, Vanarama National League Kidderminster Harriers took a chance on him as their manager, a chance that lasted only three months and one that sees the Harriers rock bottom of the league and 12 points from safety.

To say that Leeds United fans were joyous on Twitter would be like asking in what arboreal place that bears defecate. Leeds fans turned Twitter into their very own roast of former boss Hockaday.
