Nick Blackman ‘delighted’ to sign for Derby

Former Reading forward Nick Blackman has expressed his contentment in joining the high flying Rams.

Nick Blackman becomes Derby County’s second January signing after fighting off bids from Sheffield Wednesday.

The 26-year-old has been in prolific form this season for Reading, netting 13 goals in 28 games.

On joining the Rams, Blackman has stated, “I’m excited to be here. Once I heard that this club was interested it was the only place that I wanted to come to. It’s the right place for where I am at in my career.”

“I’m a very ambitious person and that is matched by Derby, which is an ultra-ambitious club and the hope is that we can get to the Premier League together.”

The striker is looking forward to reuniting with Manager Paul Clement after the pair first worked together at Blackburn Rovers in the 2011/12 season.

Blackman has said, “I have had a sample of how Paul (Clement) works and I really enjoyed it when we were together at Blackburn when he was on the coaching team. That was a big reason in me coming here.”

“You never know what can happen in football. I always hoped that I would get the chance to work with him again because he was a fantastic coach then and he is doing great things in his first full job at Derby now. I’m delighted to be working with him again.”

The forward has also expressed much praise for Clement’s current squad, of whom he has worked with many players before including Tom Ince.

He has expressed his desire and passion to aid the Rams in building upon their strong performance in the first half of the season.

Derby County sit in second place in the Championship and this signing alongside Abdul Camara could be key in boosting attacking options in order to continue the hopes of promotion to the Premier League.

“Derby have been doing fantastic so far this season and we will all just be aiming to repeat that form over the final 21 games. My only thoughts are on being successful for this club now.”

Blackman’s first game for the Rams sets to be against his former club Reading on the 12th January.
