Derby line up January move for Ligue 1 forward

Derby County are said to be closing in on the January acquisition of forward Abdoul Camara from French Ligue 1 side Angers. Le10Sport reports that a fee of £1.25million is close to being agreed.

The 25-year-old has played a key role in helping recently promoted Angers enjoy a fine season in the French top-flight, with them sitting in a highly-promising third place after 19 matches. It is believed that Paul Clement has been impressed with his performances so far this season and that a three-and-a-half year contract is soon set to have his signature at the bottom of it.

The Angers number 9 has played ten times for the Guinea national team, although he also featured for the French Under-17, Under-18 and Under-21 sides. Most of his career has been spent in the French leagues, although he did enjoy a brief spell in Greece with PAOK on loan in 2013 and a similar spell in Spain with Mallorca a year later.

He joined Angers in 2014 following the expiration of his contract with Sochaux. He began his professional career with Rennes, signing his first professional contract when the likes of Yann M’Vila also came through the ranks.

Camara is certainly versatile in terms of the positions on the field that he can play. He has featured as a striker or a winger mostly throughout his career. Considering Clement has his Derby team playing in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 formation, he would certainly fit into a front three position quite nicely. However competition for places is certainly strong in that area of the pitch and throughout the Derby squad. Chris Martin, Johnny Russell, Tom Ince, Andreas Weimann and Darren Bent currently all fight it out for those three positions each week. A sixth would possibly lead to one of them moving on.
