Derby hunt Premier League striker

Derby County are interested in signing Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle on-loan, according to the Derby Telegraph.

The Rams are apparently interested in bringing the 25-year-old to the iPro Stadium in January. The former Peterborough forward has made 10 appearances for Palace this season and has scored four goals.

However, all of his goals have come in the Capital One Cup and he has only made four league appearances.

Gayle signed for Palace from Peterborough United, after flying up through the football pyramid. He has also enjoyed time in the football league with League Two Dagenham and Redbridge.

Gayle is highly rated as a finisher but his opportunities at Palace are likely to be limited due to the strength of their side and their superb league form.

Palace are currently sixth in the top flight and a European push may not be off the cards, with The Eagles only out of the top four on goal difference after 17 games.

Gayle would likely be a valuable addition to Derby’s attack, as he has scored goals at a decent rate for every club he has played at.

He would also offer cover to Derby in case of injuries to Chris Martin and Darren Bent, which may be vital in their promotion push.

The Sun is also reporting that Derby remain keen on Queens Park Rangers star Charlie Austin.

Derby are hunting for promotion and after a rocky start, they have hit some superb form. They currently lie in second place, just two points of table toppers Middlesborough.
