Wigan flop Andy Delorts is a target for Premier League leaders Leicester City according to French website Foot 365.
Much was expected of the then 22-year old French striker when Wigan won the race for the exciting and free-scoring striker who had notched 24 goals in 36 games for Ligue 2 side Tours. He was presented to the expectant DW Stadium crowd before a 4-0 victory over Birmingham City, the ink formally drying on the signature on September 1, 2014. Then Lactics manager Uwe Rosler was exhuberant in his welcoming of the former France Under-20 striker saying,
Delorts didn’t live up to the potential expected of him when signing for Wigan, a team who won the battle ahead of other Championship teams such as Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leeds United and Charlton Athletic. After only 11 appearances in the Championship, Wigan let the young Frenchman return to former club FC Tours for the second half of the 2014/15 season, where he notched two goals and provided five assists. Wigan finally brought the curtain down on the Delort affair and the Frenchman formally severed his ties with the Lactics on July 02 this year, the Frenchman signing for Ligue 1 team Caen on a four-year deal.
Foot 365 report that Leicester City are interested in rekindling their 2014 interest in Delort who has scored seven goals in France’s top tier, including a 70th minute penalty in a 2-1 loss to Lille yesterday.. In an article from December 1, Foot say,
“Andy Delort, l’attaquant caennais, s’est notamment illustré devant un recruteur de Leicester City (Aston Villa ou encore les Queens Park Rangers étaient aussi représentés dans les tribunes du Matmut Atlantique)” Ignazio Genuardi – Foot 365: December 1, 2015
Andy Delort, the Caen striker, performed notably in front of a scout from Leicester City (Aston Villa or the Queens Park Rangers were also represented in the stands of Atlantic Matmut). Translation
The French website also intimate that Leicester’s interest could very well be due to the fact that Croatian Andrej Kramaric “des envies d’ailleurs/has desire [to play] elsewhere”. Leicester have also had previous dealings with Caen when they paid the Ligue 1 club £5.6m for the services of Malian central midfielder N’Golo Kante. However, Foot 365 also warn that Leicester and other English suitors will face competition from inside France in the shape of Olympique Lyonnaise “qui prépare la succession d’Alexandre Lacazette/who are preparing the replacing of Alexandre Lacazette.”
