Leeds United vs Wycombe: story in pictures

To avoid player complacency and performance drop-off, Leeds United head coach Steve Evans arranged a friendly last night against against League Two Wycombe Wanderers at the latter’s Adams Park stadium.

Leeds United fielded a strong team, as Steve Evans had said he would, with the Whites emerging victorious thanks to a goal in each half from Lee Erwin and half-time substitute Sam Byram. United’s players got a welcome run out and avoided any horror showing with a Friday 13th hangover. Erwin’s opening goal would have served notice to Steve Evans that the form that caused Leeds United to actively pursue the Scottish youngster was not misplaced. Whilst not really within a sniff of a place under previous boss Uwe Rosler, Erwin has the admiration of current boss Steve Evans with the Whites boss saying that, “He’s a young man who I like and he’s hungry. He’s born and bred a few miles away from where I was.” Evans was also full of praise of the young Scottish striker after the game, suggesting that the youngster may get a longer run in the first team.

Last night the whole Leeds United team put in a workmanlike performance, limiting their League Two opponents to a series of long-shots and chances from set pieces, in what was seen as a good workout for the Whites. There were no injuries coming out of the game and fringe players such as Casper Sloth, Kalvin Phillips and the returning-from-injury Tomasso Bianchi all got valuable game time under their belts.
