Steve Evans said that Leeds were going to take tonight’s game against Wycombe Wanderers seriously; it was going to be anything but a knock-about for the players – a training exercise if you will. However, that didn’t stop the wiley Scot putting out a B-team of sorts when he announced the starting line-up.
OK, I am being slightly facetious, granted it is a strong line-up but Evans must have either a liking for the letter B or he was pushed over cobbles in his pram as a nipper back in Glasgow. No fewer than six of the starting 11 have surnames beginning with the letter ‘B’. The defence is 75% ‘B’ (Bamba, Bellusci and Berardi) whilst there is also a 75% ‘B’-filled midfield (Botaka, Buckley and Bianchi). On paper, a strong team and one that should rightly be too strong for their League Two opponents in game that is almost like a 3rd round FA Cup game with the relative distance between the league placings of both teams.
The game was delayed for 15 minutes due to traffic conditions around Adams Park, not that the delay dented the enthusiasm of the Leeds fans who were in fine voice as kick-off approached, seated behind Marco Silvestri’s goal.

They say that the result from tonight won’t really have much resonance but the game does represent a chance for some of the ‘fringe’ and ‘returning’ players to make an impression on Leeds United head coach Steve Evans and force themselves closer to first team reckoning.
