Leeds United have today confirmed on their official website that forward Nicky Ajose has had his contract terminated by mutual consent. The BBC reports he is expected to sign for League One side Swindon Town.
Ajose signed for the Elland Road club in August 2014 on a three-year deal from Peterborough United. He found it hard to break into the side, leading to him being shipped out on loan to Crewe Alexandra. During his time at Gresty Road, he managed to find the scoresheet on eight occasions. Earlier today we announced initial news of this season, now Leeds have confirmed that Ajose is no longer a Leeds player.
23-year-old Ajose started his career with Manchester United, during that time he represented the England national team at Under-16 and Under-17 levels. He moved to Peterborough United in 2011, being signed by Darren Ferguson for a deal which was believed to be approximately £300,000.
Earlier this summer, Leeds boss Uwe Rosler did suggest that Ajose was a player that he was impressed by in pre-season training. He took part in the friendly games against Harrogate Town and York City, but was left out of their tour of Norway and Austria.
He is not set to join Mark Cooper’s men and could be in line to make his debut in this Saturday’s trip to one of his former clubs Crewe Alexandra.
Leeds also thanked Nicky for his efforts during his time at Elland Road and wished him all the best for the future. A move to Swindon could be beneficial to him at this point of his career. Players such as Massimo Luongo, Wes Foderingham, Nathan Byrne and Ben Gladwin all earned big moves on the back of successful spells at the County Ground.
