Reading close on return for Chelsea midfielder

Reading are closing in on bringing Nathaniel Chalobah back on loan from Chelsea, according to getreading.

Chalobah spent the end of last season on loan with the Royals and they are set to re-sign the midfielder on a season long loan. He made 20 appearances for Reading during this loan spell and impressed on numerous occasions.

Steve Clarke is now set to once again use his relationship with Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, to bring the 20-year old back to the Madejski Stadium. It is understood talks have now begun between the two clubs.

Chalobah has been on the fringes of the first team squad at Chelsea since 2012 and joined them in USA this pre-season. However, he has never appeared for them in a competitive match.

Instead, Chalobah has enjoyed varying success out on loan at five clubs. His first loan spell at Watford was the most successful as he yielded 5 goals in 42 appearances. However, the following season he spent two loan spells in the Championship with Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough and these were not hit with the same success.

Despite this, he earned himself a move to Burnley for his first taste of the Premier League. This turned out to be his worst spell as he only managed to muster up 4 appearances and have his spell cut short in January, which allowed him to link up with Reading for a more fruitful spell.
