Match Preview: Shrewsbury Town vs Millwall

Shrewsbury Town vs Millwall

Saturday 8th August

Kick Off: 15:00

Overview:

Shrewsbury Town will be looking to make an excellent start to the 2015/16 season in front of their home supporters on Saturday. Their automatic promotion will still have a positive impact in the Town dressing room, giving them a bit of momentum going into the game.

Millwall, on the other hand, are one of the three sides relegated from the Championship, but surprisingly, the atmosphere surrounding the club is positive. Neil Harris took over from Ian Holloway and results instantly began to change and Millwall finished off last season with some good results. The Millwall squad under went a complete change during the summer, with the squad having a younger look to it.

Betting (odds via William Hill):

Shrewsbury win: 7/5

Draw: 21/10

Millwall win: 21/10

What the managers said…  (interviews from millwallfc.co.uk)

Micky Mellon: “It’s a tough start for us. I believe they (Millwall) are favourites (for the League) so right away it will be a benchmark for us. We’ll know very, very quickly, with the start we have, where we are as a group. We know that we’re going straight into it if you like and there is no tougher a game than to play Millwall so we’re really looking forward to it.”
Neil Harris: “I’ve seen Shrewsbury a couple of times and they are a really good side. They are well organised, have good experience, some youth and play some good football. It’s a real tough one to start with. They certainly have momentum going into the start of the season from promotion last year, so it is a real marker for us.”
Team news
Millwall are without three players heading into this game, summer signing Joe Martin and Aiden O’Brien have both been ruled out with ankle injuries. Last seasons player of the year Jimmy Abdou has a hamstring injury. New signing Shane Ferguson, is also available for selection following his loan move from Newcastle United.
Shrewsbury have re-signed centre back Jermaine Grandison and striker Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro.
Prediction:
I expect tomorrow to be a tight, but thrilling affair, with Millwall just edging Town to a 2-1 win.
