According to the Express and Star today, Wolves are targeting Manchester United’s young keeper Sam Johnstone to provide competition for first-choice stopper Carl Ikeme.
The 22 year-old stopper has regularly been loaned away from Old Trafford and another spell away from the Red Devils to gain first team experience looks likely.
Since joined United as just a 16 year-old, the 6’3″ stopper is yet to make a senior appearance for Manchester but has had six loan spells and has been a regular feature in the youth levels for England.
During loans to Scunthorpe in 2011, Wallsall and Yeovil in 2013, Doncaster during the 2014-15 season and Preston for the end of the 2014-15 campagin, Johnstone has amassed over 50 first team appearances.
At international level Johnstone has played for England’s U16, U17, U19 and U20 sides, last appearing in 2013 as part of the squad that took part in the FIFA U20 World Cup.
