Warnock discusses Leeds United and New York

Stephen Warnock has revealed that American side New York City FC wanted to sign him in the summer of 2014.

However, despite the club making the left-back an offer, he remained with Leeds United and has revealed why.  Warnock said:

“The then new manager at Leeds, David Hockaday, came in and said he didn’t want me to leave.  The New York talks didn’t get that advanced because Leeds wanted me to stay with them.  When I was surplus to requirements at Leeds, I was up for trying something different. When David came in at Leeds and said he wanted me it was an easy decision to stay.

“I wanted to play for a big club and Leeds fitted the bill at the time. I also wanted to stay at the club and prove the doubters wrong.”

Warnock went on to make 21 appearances in his final season for Leeds, scoring only once against his former club Bolton Wanderers.

Warnock signed for fellow Championship club Derby County for an undisclosed fee in January 2015.
