Reading between the transfer lines – Beric unwrapped

Following of from Josh Dixon’s reporting on The72 of Reading’s keenness in bringing in ‘goal-machine’, Robert Beric, I thought I’d take a little look at just what Reading fans could expect from their interest in the clinically prolific Slovenian striker.

Robert Beric – last three season headline returns

  • 2014/15 (Rapid Vienna – Austrian Bundesliga): 33 games (2,748 minutes), 27 goals (goal per 102 minutes), six goal assists
  • 2013/14 (Sturm Graz – Austrian Bundesliga): 35 games (2,714 minutes), 10 goals (goal per 271 minutes), 11 goal assists
  • 2012/13 (NK Maribor – Slovenian Prva Liga): 32 games (2,235 minutes), 13 goals (goal per 172 minutes), one goal assist
  • Totals: 100 games (7,697 minutes), 50 goals (goal per 154 minutes), 18 goal assists

So, Reading would be getting a proven double-figure goalscorer over the course of each of the last three seasons with the 2014/15 Austrian Bundesliga campaign with Rapid Vienna representing the peak of his career thus far. His three-season goals per x minute return (154 minutes per goal) would place him in the position to be potentially worth around 27 goals a season to Reading, based on a full 46-game participation and 4,140 minutes played. Even should he fail to fulfill the 100% criteria, he would still seemingly supply Reading with a steady stream of goals.

With the Championship being notoriously difficult to get out of, the need for a regular goalscorer, who can contribute to the team’s goal tally, is a must for any team seriously looking for promotion. With this in mind, you can maybe just see why Reading would be interested in the deadly boot of Robert Beric.
