Leeds star looks set to stay after Premier League interest cools

Sunderland’s inevitable acquisition of Celtic full back Adam Matthews seems to have stopped their pursuit of Sam Byram.

Byram has previously stated his loyalty to Leeds and it seems as though he will be staying there for the near future. Having come through the youth academy at Leeds, he may feel he owes the club for giving him his chance.

This will come as good news to Leeds fans on a day where that seems to be rare, with certain rumours swirling around Cellino today.

However, he does only have one year left on his contract, so a step up to the Premier League next year seems certain if he keeps up the level of performance he has displayed in the last two years.

Sunderland have agreed a fee with Celtic for the transfer of Matthews, who is a similar player to Byram, which has ended their attempts to bring the Leeds defender to the club.

Rumours remain of an Everton move, but that depends on Seamus Coleman moving, which doesn’t seem particularly likely at this moment in time.
