Ex-Liverpool goalkeeper signs new deal with MK Dons

Milton Keynes Dons have confirmed that last season’s starting goalkeeper, David Martin, has signed a new two-year contract to stay with the club.

Fans were nervous over Martin’s potential return, with him being away on his honeymoon to think things over, but should now feel relieved that their reliable stopper remains with the club for another two years.

Martin recorded a club record 26 clean sheets last season, a big reason why the Dons earned promotion to the Championship.

Continuity is crucial for the Dons next season, having a good team harmony could help them to fight for survival come season’s end.

Martin is in his second spell with the club, having left the Dons in 2006 to join Liverpool. He was unable to break into the Premier League club’s first-team but since returning to MK1 in 2010, Martin has been ever present and has now compiled a combined 200+ league appearances for the Dons.

With young American goalkeeper Cody Cropper playing and learning behind Martin, the Dons now have their goalkeeper core with youngster Charlie Burns also in the mix.

The Dons have now re-signed every out-of-contract player that the club wished to return and can now focus solely on bringing in new players to accompany the trio that signed for them just yesterday.
