5 Players to look out for in League Two next season

It looks set to be a very competitive League 2 campaign, in this article I have pinpointed the players that we should look out for ahead of an inevitably electrifying season.

Barry Corr- Corr made a shock decision this summer, by leaving promoted Southend and dropping down a division to join Cambridge. Cambridge United, who have made a number of high profile signings, will be delighted to acquire a player of Corr’s calibre. He has recovered from various injury problems that have plagued the last few seasons of his career and is back to being a lethal finisher in the lower leagues. Southend manager Phil Brown was gutted to lose him, which tells you a little bit about what a great player Barry Corr is. He is big, powerful and deadly in the box. He will surely be right up in there in the scoring charts at the end of the season.

Gary Roberts- Roberts, who has recently signed for Portsmouth, is another player who has made the bold move to drop down a division, following former Chesterfield boss Paul Cook to the south coast. The 2013 League Two player of the season will add a cutting edge that Portsmouth have lacked in recent seasons. Players such as Craig Westcarr, Patrick Agyemang and Tom Craddock have not been providing enough goals for Pompey, Roberts will be hoping to better them. He should add pace, power and goals to an under-achieving Pompey side. Get ready for him to set the fourth tier on fire.

Kemar Roofe- The former West Bromwich Albion academy player is really one to watch this season. He has finally found a home at Oxford United after being loaned out all around the country by former club West Brom. During his loan spell with the U’s last term, he dragged them from relegation battlers to top half challengers almost single handedly. Scoring a wonder goal on the final day at Newport in the process. He makes taking on full back look effortless and defenders across League 2 will be dreading coming up against this man next season. You may not of heard much about Kemar Roofe right now, but you will by the end of the season.

Lenell John-Lewis- His name may be a shop but by the end of the season, you will be definitely be checking out the former Grimsby man’s skills. He tore defences to shreds last season in the Conference and it will be interesting to see if he can make the step up after recently signing for Terry Butcher’s Newport County. He will be hoping to emulate players like Jamie Vardy and Charlie Austin who were forced to work their way up from non-league to get to the very top. An impressive 20 goals for Grimsby Town last season, shows that he could follow Vardy and Austin’s footsteps. John-Lewis is definitely one to keep an eye out for next season.

Matthew Green- After an injury hit spell at Championship side Birmingham City, Green will be hoping to kick-start his career that has stalled over the last two seasons. He returns to previous employers Mansfield Town, where he bagged 25 goals in their 2013 promotion season from the Conference. It will be interesting to see if Green can cope with being thrown straight back in at the deep end of competitive football after being stuck on the treatment table for so long. He has bags of quality but does he have the fitness? We will have to wait and see, all I know is that it’s great to have a player like Matt Green back in League 2.
