Northampton see bid for Southend defender rejected

Northampton Town have had a bid for Southend United defender Luke Prosser rejected.

The League Two side were informed by the newly promoted League One side that the big defender was very much part of their plans for next season, and that they were not looking to move the player on.

The 27-year-old missed a large chunk of last season through injury, and was an unused substitute during Southend’s playoff final win over Wycombe Wanderers, due to the former of centre back pairing Cian Bolger and Adam Barrett.

Prosser has made over 100 appearances at Roots Hall, and is thought to want to see more first team action in the coming season.

Talking about the rejected bid, Southend manager Phil Brown said “We’ve had a bid from Northampton Town for Luke Prosser which we’ve turned down.

“I’ve had a chat with Luke about the situation and at the moment he is part of my plans and I don’t want to see him go anywhere else.

“At the same time though, I’m fully aware that he wants to be playing regularly at this stage of his career.

“We already have Adam Barrett and Cian Bolger at the club and we’re also in talks to keep Adam Thompson here as well.

“But we will look at the situation again during pre-season and if Luke is unhappy then we will have another chat about things then”
