Promotion On The Menu For Pompey

New Portsmouth singing Enda Stevens is targeting promotion for his new club next season after agreeing a two-year deal.

Stevens has arrived at Fratton Park after being released by Premier League Aston Villa and spent last season on loan at Doncaster Rovers. The Irishman has become Paul Cook’s third signing after Kyle Bennett and Kal Naismith landed at the 2008 FA Cup Winners.

Speaking to the official Portsmouth website, Stevens ,pictured above, told the fans of the South Coast club:

“Promotion is everyone’s aim and it’s time the club stopped underachieving and reached its potential. I’ve heard about how brilliant the fans are from the gaffer and the chairman. I want to […] hopefully have a successful season.”
While promotion is viewed as a must by everyone at the club, the management trio of Cook, his assistant Leam Richardson and First Team Coach Ian Foster are finding the club’s position in the footballing ladder a challenge to attract the right calibre of player.
Foster told the Portsmouth News:

“The difficulty is the level we find ourselves. We don’t have to sell the club to people when we pick up the phone. But players are ambitious and want to play at the highest level they possibly can and I respect that, we all respect that.”

Pompey are currently chasing Chesterfield midfielder and former League Two Player of the Year Gary Roberts after having a bid rejected by the League One side, with reports suggesting they are preparing an improved offer.
