Nyatanga considering his options

Barnsley’s Lewin Nyatanga is believed to be considering all of his options before putting pen-to-paper on a new deal the club according to The Star.

Nyatanga was offered a new deal at Oakwell at the end of the 2014/15 season but he has yet to sign it. It has led to increasing worry from the club that he will leave and if an offer came in from a Championship level club, it looks likely that he would make the move.

However, the Tykes have an ace up their sleeve – they plan on offering the player an extra year at the club. The current deal on the table lasts for two years but Barnsley are believed to be willing to offer the defender a third year to try and get him to stay on at the club.

Boss Lee Johnson is keen on keeping Nyatanga so that the club is covered at the back but his reluctance to pen this new deal is a worrying sign that he could be on his way out this summer.

However, the club is hopeful the additional year that is added on to the deal will be enough to get Nyatanga to sign this new contract.

The defender was in fine form last season for Barnsley and was a key player in the team for the Tykes throughout the season. Some of his performances at the back were superb and it is this reason why the club are so desperate to keep hold of him.
