#RETAINED – Gone-caster : Donny retained list gives players no Rovers Return

Doncaster have announced the release of eleven players in their retained list, including several players who had first-team roles for the club last season.

Reece Wabara has left the club, despite playing a big part for the team in defence last season. South Africa captain Dean Furman will also be leaving the club. He too featured quite frequently for the League 1 side last season but will be packing his bags when his current deal runs out.

According to manager Paul Dickov, both Furman and Wabara have left the club because they “expressed a desire to perhaps have a look a little higher” in terms of joining a new team. He also told The Star:

“When we spoke to them we had to say that we respect their opinion and want them to get a club at a higher level but, at the same time, considering the problems we’ve encountered in previous seasons we don’t want to be in a situation again with players who’ve been with us the previous season are not contracted for the forthcoming season.

“They’re two fantastic kids who I’ve got a lot of time for and I spoke with them this morning to wish them all the best and thank them for, not just their time at Doncaster but also the relationship I’ve had with them over the last five years of management.”

Jamie McCombe has also been released after a number of injury problems and so has Theo Robinson. Ex-Man City and Anzhi man Abdul Razak has also left the club.
