Transfer Targets – Relegated Sides

With Wigan, Millwall and Blackpool getting relegated, is there any players who we should try and get off them?

Often relegated teams will look to offload a few players for cheap, so this could be a great opportunity to pick up some decent quality players.

The obvious choice would be Rob Kiernan, who has been relatively solid for Blues since he joined on loan. He’s comfortable on the ball and isn’t first choice at Wigan, so this could be a steal.

Emyr Huws spent the majority of last season on loan at Blues and was incredibly impressive. Huws seems a step above League 1, for sure, and if he is leaving for a small fee Blues should, in my opinion, be sniffing around. Strong, mobile, a good passer and capable of scoring goals from midfield; Huws looked a complete midfielder.

James McClean burst onto the scene at Sunderland with some impressive performances in the Premier League, but quickly faded into obscurity. At Wigan he has been one of their better players and is incredibly fast and direct. If Blues can’t sign Lloyd Dyer, McClean could be a decent option.

Both Ali Al-Habsi and David Forde are decent keepers and should Darren Randolph leave, both keepers could be good replacements. Jamie O’Hara is a good player, and has easily been Blackpool’s best player this season, but his wages and baggage could make him a really risky signing. Andrea Orlandi is another decent player, but I think Blues may be able to do better, though he should not be overlooked.

Millwall and Blackpool’s squads look as poor on paper as they do on the pitch, but there are some good players in Wigan’s squad who could definitely do a job for Blues next year.
