Honourable Mention: Alex Nicholls – Northampton vs Wimbledon

While a cracking strike by anybody’s standards, Nicholls’ goals wasn’t quite special enough to make the cut this week. I had to include it though, as the goal was the forward’s first goal after a two year lay off following a leg break. What a moment.

5. Ryan Leonard – Southend vs Mansfield

Southend scraped past the Stags at Field Mill courtesy of this Yeboah-like screamer from Ryan Leonard. Pick. That. Out.

4. Yanic Wildschut – Middlesbrough vs Rotherham

‘Boro’s solid form continued with a rampant win over Rotherham. Recent signing Yanic Wildschut had the pick of the goals, sorting his feet out with Aguero-esque balance and slamming a peach past Adam Collin.

3. Matej Vydra – Watford vs Millwall

A corner routine straight from the training ground pays off in sublime style, as Keith Andrews chips a sumptuous ball over the baffled Lions defence, and goal-machine Vydra has the balance and poise to improvise and slot home from a yard out.

2. Royston Drenthe – Sheffield Wednesday vs Charlton

A marvellous individual goal by the former Real Madrid man, picking the ball up on the halfway line, tormenting several Charlton defenders and drilling home into the bottom corner.

1. Andrew Mangan – Shrewsbury vs Dagenham & Redbridge

‘Town striker Mangan may have been the star in their Capital One Cup tie against Chelsea, scoring a memorable equaliser, but in terms of quality it has nothing on this incredible, over the shoulder volley. Surely one of the best goals of the football league season so far?
