What’s next for sorry Blues?

Defender and fans favourite Paul Robinson has issued an apology on behalf of the Birmingham City squad who were dismantled by Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth on Saturday. Blues manager Lee Clark was axed from his position earlier in the week and now City find themselves in the bottom three on the back of this weekend’s 0-8 hammering.

Following Clark’s departure, Marcus Crosby was appointed as caretaker manager for the visit of the Cherries. However this failed to bear fruit, as the Blues were booed off at full time by the St Andrews faithful. Crosby spoke of his embarrassment about the result at the final whistle, whilst Robinson described the game as ‘a shambles’.

Well to start with, the club confirmed the appointment of head coach Gary Rowett from League Two Burton on Monday. Rowett made over 100 appearances during a two-year spell as a player with the West Midlanders, which may give the 40-year-old extra time to turn things around at St Andrews. More importantly it may install some much needed pride into the current City playing staff. When interviewed upon the unveiling, Rowett admitted he wanted to produce a team that could replicate the pride and passion the supporters have.

Rowett impressed many as Burton boss. This coupled with being a former Blue showing passion for the club stands him in good stead. However, there is no doubting the job in which he faces is a huge one. Bluenoses have been through the mill since their memorable League Cup final win against Arsenal back in 2011 and they will be hopeful Gary Rowett is the man to turn the clubs recent fortunes around. However only time will tell if the former Burton man will succeed. One thing is for sure, his opening games are far from easy. Saturday sees Rowett take charge of the Blues ahead of a mouth-watering local derby at Wolves, before being reintroduced to the St Andrews faithful next Tuesday against second placed Watford.
