Stevenage strike Darius Charles is unlikely to feature this weekend

Stevenage and Wycombe both suffered disappointing results midweek and will be hoping to pick a result up at the weekend when the two sides meet at The Lamex. Stevenage conceded a 98th minute penalty as they drew 1-1 with Plymouth and two goals either side of half time from Max Power and Cole Stockton gave Tranmere Rovers a 2-0 win away at Wycombe.

Stevenage, who are currently 16th in the table, could be without Darius Charles, Charlie Lee and Chris Whelpdale who all picked up knocks midweek. Adam Marriott is expected to return after missing the trip to Plymouth but Harry Worley, Chris Beardsley, Ronnie Henry, Calvin Zola and Dean Parrett are all still out.

Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth is expected to name an unchanged side for the fifth successive match but could use on loan Rotherham duo Danny Rowe and Nicky Walker, if needed. They are currently 7th in the League after losing their 100% winning start.

Head to Head:

The two sides have met on four occasions, all of which in the League. Stevenage have won two of games, both coming away from home. Wycombe won the first encounter during the 2010/11 season 2-0 away from home. The other result, and their most recent was a 1-1 draw in League One. Stevenage thought they had won the game when Michael Bostwick fired an 85th minute goal but it was cancelled out during stoppage time thanks to Grant Basey injury-time penalty.

One to watch:

Peter Murphy

Wycombe’s new defender is currently their top scorer in the League with two goals against Newport County and Carlisle. The 24-year-old, who played 155 times for former club Accrington Stanley, will be hoping to keep the goals out. Wycombe have failed to keep a clean sheet since the opening day of the season and with Stevenage striker Darius Charles a doubt and Adam Marriott returning from injury, a clean sheet might be easier than first expected.

Simon Walton

The Stevenage midfielder captained the side during their disappointing 1-1 draw with Plymouth. His leadership is very important during this week’s preparation and on Saturday as he will hope his players move on quickly. The 26-year-old, who was released by Hartlepool United at the end of last season, has only played in the last two games against Southend and Plymouth. With a lot of injuries for Stevenage, Walton must use his league experience to help lift the young side and return them to winning ways.

As previously mentioned, both sides are hoping to end their week on a high but I can see this being a very nervy game. Wycombe will be coming to The Lamex knowing they can pick a result up knowing they have done on previous occasions. This will certainly be a worry for the home side which is why I think the score will be…
