MK Dons move to secure Villa youngster

MK Dons boss Karl Robinson has admitted being interested in re-signing Aston Villa’s Samir Carruthers, who was on loan at the club last season, on a permanent basis.

Carruthers, 21, has been on the fringes of Villa’s first team for the last couple of years since making a debut against Liverpool in the 11/12 season. He has struggled to push for first team appearances under Paul Lambert and now looks set for a move away from the club as the Villa boss looks to develop the players he has brought in over the last two seasons and get rid of deadwood.

Carruthers impressed while on loan at the stadium:MK last season making 28 appearances, scoring twice, before a knee injury sidelined him and cut short his spell at the club. Now manager Karl Robinson wants to sign Carruthers to a permanent deal, “Samir is someone I think is a top, top player,” Robinson told Sky Sports, “I’m not going to rule it out, but I’m not going to tell you I’ve done a deal either. He’s someone I’d love to bring to the club on a permanent deal. It is unknown whether the player would be willing to give up on a place in the Villa first team but Robinson would certainly be willing to make the youngster an attractive offer” when you see the team tonight (Monday), and the number of young players, he’d certainly add quality” Robinson said.

He has already won a Next Gen European Championship medal with Villa two years ago so he certainly looks to be a player of a high calibre and given his many good performances for the Villa reserves and the MK Dons first team last season he is certainly a top target for Robinson to tie down.

Carruthers is a competent midfielder who has the ability to, at times, turn on the flair (his goal against Oldam, a wonderfully skilful individual effort, was a prime example of this). He can play centrally or as an attacking midfielder and would certainly give Robinson’s side some much needed creativity, and stability given that he was at the club last season, going into the new campaign.
