Leeds to miss out on Avelar

Leeds United will have to look elsewhere as Cagliari left back Danilo Avelar has said that he will not be joining the Championship side.

The 25 year old seemed all but certain to join Leeds in the January transfer window, but the move collapsed as the deal was not completed before the window shut at 11pm. After the arrival of new Italian owner, Massimo Cellino, it seemed that the move would be back on, however Avelar has now stated that he has not intentions of leaving the Serie A team.

Avelar was signed permanently by Cagliari last season, after 20 appearances on loan the season before. He featured in 20 games again this season, as Cagliari finished 15th, just surviving relegation.

Leeds have also been linked with another Italian based left back, Fabrizio Grillo from Serie B outfit Siena. Grillo is interesting Leeds and also other clubs in Italy, and at the moment it remains unclear what his future holds. However, due to the influx of Italian based players into the Leeds squad, it would be no surprise if we see Grillo featuring in the white shirt of Leeds United next season.
